The Minister of Works Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf visited BD5.4 million south Alba Sewage Treatment Plant Project; scheduled to begin once designs and studies are ready.
The project was awarded to Watson Khonji, who is presently re-designing the plant to accommodate the predicted flow for the plant and conform to the environmental standards certified by the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife regarding discharge to the sea and odors level.
The capacity of the plant at the present is approximately 900 m3 a day, which the Ministry is expanding to 2500 m3 to accommodate future needs.
The Minister instructed officials in the sanitary engineering sector to follow up the design phases for the project and make sure they go in line with customary operational performance standards to provide the sought after performance. He also promised to provide all facilitations to proceed with the tender process for the increase of the plant’s capacity and the implementation of other related facilities.
