Bahrain has reaffirmed the necessity to respect the independence of the judiciary and court verdicts.
Bahrain’s Permanent Representative Dr. Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri addressed a letter in this regard to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay in response to her press statement, dated September 6, describing the decision of the High Criminal Court of Appeal to uphold convictions and sentences of 20 people accused of “plotting to overthrow the regime, intelligence with foreign parties and violating the constitution as “deeply regrettable.”
Dr. Bucheeri said that the accused had been guarantee a fair trial, stressing their right to refer the verdicts upheld against them to the Court of Cassation.
