Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and affirmed Bahrain’s keenness on continuing the reform process and implementing the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) and the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
The HCHR chief hailed Shaikh Khalid’s keynote speech before the UNHRC, acknowledging positive penchant to cooperate with the UN human rights watchdog.
She also credited the keynote speech for stressing the constructive role of the UN panel in defending human rights in the world.
The two sides discussed technical cooperation between Bahrain and the UN High Commission, affirming the Kingdom’s commitment to promote and protect human rights in conformity with the international standards. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay welcomed the invitation to visit Bahrain.
