Deputy Attorney General, Ibrahim Al-Kuwari said that the Public Prosecution had finished its extended investigation in the case of detonating two explosives in Diraz area, which led to the injury of four security men, where two of them were seriously wounded.
The case was referred to the third High Criminal Court for consideration in the hearing of 11 October 2012.
The Deputy Attorney General added that the details of the incident and according to the investigations was dated back to April 24 2012, when the defendants prepared an ambush in agreement and coordination among them, by placing two explosives in Diraz Area aiming at killing the security men. They divided themselves into three groups, where the first group headed to the roundabout committing acts of sabotage and vandalism to attract the security force to go for them.
When the security force pursued them as the group planned, the same group swept inside the area, and during that time, another group came out and attacked the force with Molotov cocktails, but as the security men followed them, they were caught in an ambush previously prepared by the saboteurs. Then, two explosive devices were fired by the third group when the force came nearby by a remote control. The explosion caused injuries to four security men, where two of them were seriously wounded and immediately taken to hospital.
Concerning that case, the prosecution referred 39 accused, including 18 of them who escaped from justice and still the arrest warrant in force against them.
The accused where charged with committing terrorist crimes, and implementing a collective criminal agreement aiming at disturbing public security, endangering people’s lives, and sabotaging public and private property. They were also charged with attempting to murder a number of security men with premeditation.
Al Kuwari explained that the prosecution based on directing those accusations to what proved through investigation and statements of some of the defendants on how they committed the crime and the way they planned it.
The prosecution also based the accusation on the Forensic Laboratory’s report, which contained samples that had explosive chlorates and remnants of two explosive devices that were detonated by a remote control.
There were also two gasoline gallons, and nails to cause high destruction that led to killing.
The prosecution pointed out that the victims and because of what the injuries they have suffered from ranging from severe and medium, some of them have been sent abroad for treatment and rehabilitation.
