Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa asserted that Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) requires respect of the rulings of the Judicial Authority, adding that discussing verdicts is normal as long as people are fully respected.
Regarding the National Consensus Dialogue, Shaikh Khalid explained that the extent of consensus between the groups is determined through the stances voiced by the political associations themselves, stressing that all sides should be open to each other and have a clear desire to engage into the dialogue.
He also said that the timing of the dialogue stems from the political associations’ readiness to go forward, noting that many associations are keen on achieving progress, while others are not.
“What is important now is the creation of common grounds of understanding,” he said.
Shaikh Khalid made the remarks on the sidelines of the Conference on Management of Judicial Training Institutes.
The Minister asserted that the conference reflected the importance of the judicial rehabilitation and how institutes can provide appropriate rehabilitation in light of the constantly-changing economic, social, political and legal situations.
He also indicated that the judiciary should interact with those changes, highlighting the role played by institutes in rehabilitating all legal field workers, including judges, members of the Public Prosecution and lawyers.
The Justice Minister also said that the event is held at the GCC level, in cooperation with the American Bar Association (ABA) and a group of experts who will enrich the conference, which, he asserted, will reflect positively on Bahrain judges.
