Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in association with the Italian Embassy of Bahrain, has sponsored the shipment of books to be donated to the Bahrain National Library. The books were flown from Rome to the Kingdom of Bahrain, on a Gulf Air flight as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
“We are pleased to sponsor the shipment of books and pamphlets from Italy to the Bahrain National Library. We believe working with communities in which we operate is an integral part of our business philosophy and this is just a small example,” Gulf Air’s Italy Country Manager, Marco Fontana said.
“I would like to thank Gulf Air for its crucial support to this initiative which completes the Italian Corner at the Bahrain National Library, making it the biggest Italian Library in the whole Gulf. The Italian Library will be a resource for Bahrainis and expats alike, and will help better the knowledge of Italy. Arabic translations of Italian literature masterpieces will be included in the Library,” Enrico Padula, the Italian Ambassador in Bahrain, said.
“Gulf Air continues to give back to the community through various Corporate Social Responsibility activities such as sponsoring events, supporting charities and local initiatives. In September 2008, Gulf Air launched a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility strategy focusing on three key areas: climate change and clean air, waste management, and community service. Since its launch, the airline has made some notable achievements on several fronts including the reduction in the amount of potable water carried on board its flights by 25%, which will save around 1800 tons of carbon emissions each year.”
