Parliament Chairman Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Dhahrani warned against the detrimental repercussions of illegal rallies on the national economy, investments and tourism as well as the image of the country.
He described the unlicensed rally held today in Manama as a flagrant defiance of the law, stressing the impact of such illegal protests on citizens and expatriates’ interests.
In statement issued the Parliament speaker said that the unlicensed protest and illegal acts which mar them lead to traffic congestions that disrupt people’s public, private and human interests and spark fear and tensions among them.
“The political initiatives and the national dialogue aimed at promoting the reform project and the democratic march through legal institutions and civilized practices as well as the sincere calls of leading national figures are contravened by the acts of violence, sabotage and incitement perpetrated by certain parties and instigators”, he said.
He said that the perpetrators who flout the law and incite such acts do not want any reform or stability nor do they seek dialogue to serve the nation, overcome all challenges and explore a consensual solution desired by all parties.
He also accused such parties of escalating the acts of violence and sabotage to harm the national economy and cause massive losses for the country, adding that such designs cannot be accepted by a democratic and law-abiding society committed to institutions.
Al-Dhahrani called for the law on rallies and meetings to be enforced to maintain the country’s security and stability by preserving hard-won national achievements and protect people’s lives and properties.
He voiced the Parliament’s rejection of any attempt to undermine national and citizens’ interests, harm properties and derail national achievements.
He urged religious figures and leading personalities from all social components and associations to hear the voice of reason, put national interest above all considerations and avoid dragging the country into the cauldron of violence and incitement which would affect all sides whether in the present or in the future.
Al-Dhahrani said that the Parliament would spare no effort to build bridges of cooperation and back all efforts to promote the country’s development momentum and continue the march of reform.
