Human Rights Affairs Minister Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdulrahman met with the Turkish Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva Oguz Demiralp.
Dr. Salah praised the solid Bahraini-Turkish relations and common interests, hailing Turkey’s support for the kingdom’s reforms and call for the need to respect its sovereignty and not interfere in its domestic affairs.
He also discussed with Ambassador Oguz Demiralp ways of bolstering joint cooperation and coordination regarding the protection of rights and civil liberties, commending Turkey’s supportive stances towards the kingdom at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and backing of Bahrain’s nomination for the membership of its Advisory Council.
Dr. Salah Ali also pointed out to the remarkable human rights strides attained in the kingdom since the launch of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s pioneering Reform Project, a decade ago, and the approval of the kingdom’s Universal Periodic Review by the UNHRC unanimously.
He also highlighted the sincere efforts undertaken by the government regarding the acceptance of 90% of the UNHRC’s recommendations and implementation of them in record time.
The Turkish Ambassador praised the government’s efforts in the human rights field, affirming that Bahrain is among countries which showed exemplary sincerity in promoting human rights principles and culture, expressing his country’s readiness to cooperate with the kingdom in the human rights fields.
He also reiterated Turkey’s support for Bahrain’s nomination to the membership of UNHRC’s Advisory Committee.
He also indicated that Bahrain has presented an advanced example of a country that promotes the sovereignty of the law and respect of institutions.
Dr. Salah Ali praised Turkey’s human rights experience, calling for the need to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange of expertise in this regard, out of the kingdom’s constant keenness to interact with all countries and international organisations in the human rights field.
