In line with the Human Rights Affairs Ministry’s resolve to consolidate human rights for all citizens and residents and following directives from the Human Rights Affairs Minister Dr. Salah Ali, a delegation from the Ministry, led by Undersecretary Said Mohammed Al Faihani, who was accompanied by the Director of Legal Affairs Mohammed Fzaia, paid a visit the Reform and Rehabilitation Directorate in Jaw in order to be informed about the conditions of a number of convicts in different cases.
During the visit, members of the delegation met with the Director of Reform and Rehabilitation at the Interior Ministry and inquired about a number of issues pertaining to prisoners and reviewed with him other matters discussed during the previous visits.
The delegation was also briefed on the efforts being exerted by the Directorate to ensure comfort for all detainees and create a positive atmosphere between them.
The delegation visited a number of cells where it met a number of inmates and was assured on their conditions.
Members of the delegation paid a visit to Nabeel Rajab and were informed about his legal situation in light of the statements made many sides.
The visit revealed that Nabeel Rajab was detained along with five other detainees in two rooms with two bathrooms, a living-room, a TV set, a refrigerator, a kitchen, a public phone and a place for practising sports activities.
The delegation expressed satisfaction at the “good treatment” enjoyed by Nabeel Rajab, according to his personal statement to its members.
The delegation also paid visits to other detainees, met with their relatives and listened to their observations, and assured them that Human Rights Affairs Ministry was interested in the rights of all convicts and ready to follow up on all problems facing them in prison.
At the end of the visit, the delegation referred a number of remarks and inquiries to the prison administration which pledged to study them.
Meanwhile, the delegation thanked the prison administration for its close follow up of all issues discussed during the previous visits and the current one.
The Human Rights Affairs extended sincere thanks and appreciation to the Interior Ministry for its prompt positive response to its request to allow the delegation to visit the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre.
It also paid tribute to the Inspector General at the Interior Ministry for his follow up of the situation of human rights in Jaw prison, reiterating its interest in the rights of all citizens and residents in the kingdom.
