The General Director of the Capital Governorate Police announced that there were incidents of rioting and vandalism in the commercial center of Manama on Friday afternoon and evening, after illegal demonstrations were called for.
Rioters hurled petrol bombs, iron rods and stones, endangering both the police and civilians in the area. They also burned trash bins and blocked roads in an attempt to hinder traffic and affect the commercial activity in the area.
The General Director stated that police used only the necessary force to restore order in responding. Twenty-nine were arrested for vandalism and rioting; and will be referred to the Public Prosecution. An investigation has begun to identify others involved in the incident.
