The General Director of the Northern Governorate Police announced the death of a policeman on Thursday from serious burns he sustained during a domestic terrorist attack in Karzakan this past April. The deceased had been sent abroad to receive treatment for his burns when he succumbed to his injuries.
This marks the second death of a policeman in the past week from fatal injuries received in the line of duty. On October 19th, a 19 year-old police officer was killed after his patrol came under attack from petrol bombs and an improvised explosive device in Al Eker.
Since the beginning of the unrest in February 2011, more than 1,500 police officers in Bahrain have been injured in the line of duty. In the months of May-August (2012) alone 115 police officers suffered injuries requiring medical treatment, with 56 of them suffering serious life changing injuries that include severe burns on over 90% of their bodies.
