The Kingdom of Bahrain stressed the need of the settlement of the Middle East problem which could be accomplished through ending Israel occupation of the Arab and Palestinian territories since 1967, including Eastern Jerusalem, the Syrian Golan, and withdrawal from all the other Lebanese occupied territories, in accordance with Security Council related resolutions.
This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Bahrain to United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rewaee who delivered a speech at the Security Council, in the open discussion related to Middle East Issue, including the Palestinian problem.
Al Rewaee said that His Majesty the King stressed the importance of that issue in his speech in the Summit of the Islamic Conference Organization held in Makkah on the 15th of last August, where he reinforced the need for strict action to have just, comprehensive and permanent solution to establish an independent Palestinian State with its capital Eastern Jerusalem.
“This has to be achieved in accordance with United Nations (UN) resolutions, the Arabic Peaceful Initiative and resolutions of the international Quartet Commission,” he said.
Bahrain also called on the establishment of an independent Palestinian State based on the borders of the Fourth of June 1967, with its capital Jerusalem, and reaching a just solution which ensures the return of all Palestinian refugees back to their homes, in accordance with U.N. General Assembly’s resolution no 194.
Bahrain’s permanent representative to UN highlighted the speech by of the Foreign Minister, Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Head of Bahrain’s delegation in the session 67 for the General Assembly, where he expressed the constant stance of Bahrain.
Ambassador Al Rewaee pointed out that the choice of having two states was the only permanent solution, where the Arabic Peace Initiative was considered the most important pillars for resolving the problem. He also expressed the fear that the peace process would never move because of Israel’s continued settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territory, which undermines all the efforts and initiatives, whether Arab or international, to achieve peace.
