Undersecretary of Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments for Justice Affairs, Khalid Hassan Ajaji stated that in the light of the recommendation of the National Committee concerned with following up the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission for Inquiry (BICI), and in the framework of the civil settlement with respect to cases of death, the ministry has started to take actions towards disbursement of compensation for families of 19 deceased.
The disbursement will be in the light of the decision of the cabinet approving to allocate one million and two hundred thousand dinars for the second phase of the disbursement of compensations for death cases.
In a statement for Undersecretary of Ministry of Justice, he said that by ending that second phase, they would have covered all the compensations related to the deceased, because of the last events who were about 35 contained in detail in the report of (BICI), in addition to other 4 cases, where the total amount of compensation for all mentioned cases was about $6 million.
Undersecretary of Justice stated that the compensation referred to include the families of the martyrs of duty of security men who were killed because of or in the line of duty.
The civil settlement office had decided settlement for seventeen cases as a first stage, where it based its estimation on the tradition of the provisions of the civil courts in this regard in the Kingdom in order to achieve a fair settlement.
Undersecretary of Ministry of Justice stated that in regard of settlement requests related to physical injury due to past events, they have been limited to 116 cases, where there will be a discussion with the settlement office, pointing out working on consideration of other requests received by the office.
The office, which includes a team of legal advisers and specialists, began its work in March 2012, where it reviews and studies the civil settlement requests in communication and coordination with the relevant authorities, in order to reach fair and appropriate compensation for the eligible cases.
The Civil settlement initiative, which was adopted in paying compensation directly to those affected as a satisfactory settlement, in the light of the royal directives to accelerate addressing the damage caused by recent events through compensating those affected. Also, in the light of the recommendation of the National Committee concerned with (BICI), and the keenness of the government to expedite implementation of the recommendations of (BICI).
