The Kingdom of Bahrain still produces the world’s best pearls known as Dana keeping the thousands of year old trading of this trading hub in the centre of the Arabian Gulf, a leading pearl trader and jeweller revealed.
Vijay, Director Pearls GIA, after the opening of the Jewellery Arabia 2012, told the 24X7 News that the old tradition of diving pearls was still alive and Bahrain continues to produce the best big sizes of pearls called Dana.
“Though Dana is very rare piece as at an average Dana constitutes 2% to 3% of the produce but it is still very much there. There has been a great interest in Bahrain’s pearls by the regional and the international markets and individual buyers,” Vijay explained.
Vijay said that black pearls remained a rare as out of 10,000 pieces there was a possibility of only one black pearl.
His Royal Highness the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who opened the 21st show, took a keen interest in the pearls while visiting the various stands.
