The cabinet meeting chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa held at Gudaibiya Palace on Sunday hailed Bahrain’s successive international achievements, mainly in the human rights field.
It lauded the Human Rights Council’s unanimous endorsement of the kingdom’s report and the uncontested election of Bahrain’s nominee to the council’s Consultative Committee membership.
This success is an international recognition of Bahrain’s efforts in the human rights field and a boost to its reputation in this respect, the cabinet stressed.
HRH the Prime Minister affirmed that Bahrain’s international human rights achievement is an evidence of success of the government’s work coupled with a popular and institutional support characterized by collectivity and the one-team spirit.
To boost interaction with the Human Rights Council and its affiliated bodies as well as the international human rights organisations, the cabinet approved the appointment of a human rights attaché in the kingdom’s permanent mission to the UN office in Geneva, who will be under the authority of the Human Rights Affairs Ministry.
HRH the Prime Minister directed all ministries and government bodies to finalise technical and coordination procedures to ensure the GCC-funded projects are ready for implementation.
The cabinet approved a draft decree-law to promote the role of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) in developing the private sector and increasing its contribution to economic growth as well as mapping out a strategy to upgrade the industry and commerce sector.
The council also endorsed a governance guide for state-run establishments which are fully or partially funded from the general budget and are under the authority of the Civil Service Bureau.
The guide aims to optimize the public sector’s performance by promoting transparency, competitiveness, competence and effectiveness.
Within the same context, the cabinet also approved a work plan to boost governance in governmental institutions and raise awareness of the importance of this culture.
As part of the government’s keenness to bolster social partnership and responsibility, the ministerial council approved a proposal to set up a centre for the retirees and elderly in Budaiya.
