Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa strongly condemned the domestic terror act aimed directly at on-duty policemen in Ekar on Thursday, October 18 2012. Omran Mohammed Ahmed died in the early morning hours of Friday, October 19 as a result of an explosion caused by a homemade bomb. A second police officer was also injured and is currently in critical condition.
“We have identified a number of suspects in the case,” His Excellency said. “We won’t stop at just determining who committed the crime, but we will also determine who orchestrated the explosion and who trained the individuals in their bomb-making skills.”
He also stated that while those responsible have not yet been arrested, their movements have been limited and it is only a matter of time before security forces locate them. He said that since they have been on the front lines for more than a year and a half, they appreciate the thanks and appreciation of the community.
“Bahraini policemen have taken responsibility for maintaining the peace and order of this great nation,” he said. “At the very least, they deserve our respect and assistance.”
“The sacrifices the police have made over the past 18 months will always be appreciated and that the families of those who have been injured or killed will be provided for as a way of showing respect for what their sons have sacrificed for the Kingdom of Bahrain,” the Minister said.
