As part of its mission to empower students and educate them beyond their classroom studies, Academia Management Solutions International (AMSI), a leading academic solutions provider which manages both ISAS and Al Mawakeb Schools, recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month through several “Pink Day” activities, with children and teachers from the schools doing their part to support the cause.
Each one of AMSI’s schools organized a wide array of activities to raise awareness for the cause. At Al Mawakeb Schools, more than 2000 students came together to form a giant pink Ribbon on the school field signifying their support while other students released pink balloons, dedicated to those that have been affected by Breast Cancer, with messages conveying support. The walls of the schools turned into dedications boards with messages to survivors and to those who lost someone to the disease pasted all over huge canvas displaying students’ artwork for “Think in Pink”. Even Kindergarten’s students were involved in tying pink ribbons to trees and creating artwork to be displayed around the schools.
At ISAS, students of grades 4- 12 invaded Al Warqaa roads and walked 1.5 kilometers wearing pink caps and pink t-shirts, to create visibility for the cause and draw attention from the community in their quest to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Throughout the month of October, students contributed to the cause by raising funds for cancer research through different informative activities. Dr. Hana Musbah Salama, from the Dubai Health Authority, joined the fight at Al Mawakeb Schools, by presenting the girls a “Safe and Sound” lecture while Dr. Hanan Obaid, also from the Dubai Health Authority, addressed the teenagers of ISAS. The lectures aimed at increasing the students’ awareness about the importance of regular checkups as well as facts about the direct and indirect causes of cancer, its effect on people’s lifestyles and the importance of regular check-ups and maintaining a healthy diet in helping to prevent such diseases.
“Through the various activities conducted at the schools, our aim was not only to expose students to the reality of Breast Cancer, but more importantly, to teach them about the importance of giving back. Helping a cause in whatever small way possible can inspire a deep sense of empowerment that will be a big influence on the future of the students and the way in which they will ultimately contribute to society,” Susan Yun, Student Affairs Director at AMSI, said.
In addition to the in-school activities, students from ISAS and Al Mawakeb schools will also be participating in the BurJuman Safe & Sound Pink Walkathon, the annual charitable, non-competitive event aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer, on the 2nd November 2012 at Zabeel Park.
