His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was honoured by the African Union (AU) for his outstanding role in promoting regional and international peace and security.
HRH Prime Minister received at his court a delegation from the African Union Commission, led by Chairperson Dr. Jean Ping who presented him with the African Union Shield.
HRH the Prime Minister said at the celebration, which was attended by the Deputy Premiers, officials and the AU Commission delegation, that the honour is a source of pride as it reflects the African countries’ respect to Bahrain and its foreign policy aimed at fostering regional and international peace and security and boosting cooperation in various fields.
HRH voiced support to all efforts to promote cooperation between Bahrain, AU and the African countries as well as bolster political, economic and trade relations between Africa and the GCC countries by providing a favourable background to coordinate stances and build a solid and strategic partnership between both sides.
HRH underscored the importance of exchanging visits and expertise with the African countries due to heavy economic and political weight of the African continent, lauding outstanding historic ties binding the African nations with the Arab countries, in general, and the GCC member states, in particular.
HRH also underlined the importance of joint action to ensure security, stability, sustainable development and optimum use of resources.
HRH the Prime Minister thanked the AU Commission Chairperson for his tremendous efforts to boost African cooperation and promote the AU role on the international scene.
Dr. Ping expressed honour in meeting HRH the Premier, voicing keenness on broader horizons of cooperation between Bahrain and the AU Commission.
He also lauded HRH the Prime Minister’s keen interest to establish strong relations between Bahrain and AU as well as the steps taken in this regard.
He described HRH the Premier’s presentation with the African Union Shield as the outcome of his keen interest to cement links with the African countries and a tribute to his strenuous and distinguished efforts to promote peace and stability as well as enhance sustainable social and economic growth all over the world.
He praised Bahrain’s development boom and the government’s achievements, spearheaded by HRH the Prime Minister, which, he said, have earned the kingdom a leading status in free economies, turning it into a regional financial hub. “HRH the Prime Minister has led this success competently,” Dr. Ping said.
