Royal University for Women Center of Excellence for Women Empowerment initiated an Entrepreneurship Awareness Campaign in association with UNIDO, at its premises in Riffa.
A month long campaign will compromise a series of lectures and workshops to be conducted with the participation of reputable institutions such as Tamkeen, Ministry of Culture, and LMRA with the aim of empowering women through entrepreneurship.
In the first session of the campaign UNIDO head Dr. Hashim Hussein expressed his support for the campaign and deemed the campaign an ideal opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to gain vital knowledge from experienced professionals. He lauded entrepreneurial spirit of the university and expressed his encouragement when informed by the president of Royal University for Women president Dr.Mazin Juma, of ‘business incubators’ to be set up in Royal University for Women in the near future.
The open invitational session, which attracted students from various universities, also included a talk by established entrepreneur and leading businesswoman Huda Janahi.
Janahi, who features regularly on the Forbes top 50 most powerful women advised the students to start on a small scale prior to expanding and to never give up regardless of the challenges they will likely face.
Upcoming lectures will provide advice to budding entrepreneurs on how to establishing a business as well as how to best make use of available sources such as the Bahrain Development Bank’s entrepreneurship scheme and UNIDO’s own developmental services.
Dr.Ilene Agana, Manager of the Training and Development Center, at Royal University for Women, described her enthusiasm for the program and explain that it is a breakthrough for woman entrepreneurs who are determined to achieve their goals but may at times lack direction, which will be provided by the campaign.
The “Entrepreneurship Awareness Campaign” is a month long initiative with lectures and events occurring on the Monday and Wednesday of the following four weeks. The campaign continued on the 22nd of October with guest speaker Dominque Ybera, Business Counsellor at UN Industrial Development Organization and entrepreneur Yahya Al Ansari. To be followed by guest speakers from both the Bahrain Development Bank and the Ministry of Commerce on the 24th of October. All lectures and events will be held at the Royal University for Women campus in West Riffa.
