On the sidelines of the Regional Governance Week conference, currently held here under the theme of “Social Accountability in a Changing Region:Actors and Mechanisms,” Human Rights Affairs Minister Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdulrahman met with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Belonging Institution for Human Rights Ashraf Al Dadah and discussed with him human rights issues of joint interest.
Dr. Salah Ali asserted that the Kingdom has made qualitative leaps in developing human rights practices since the inception of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s pioneering Reform Project.
He also reviewed the kingdom’s human rights achievements since the first Universal Periodic Review in 2008 and the second in 2012, explaining that Bahrain, represented in the Human Rights Affairs Ministry, has put forward a clear timetable to implement the recommendations of the Human Right Council, as well as its voluntary pledges in this regard.
The Human Rights Minister confirmed the kingdom’s keen interest to honour honour its national and international human rights commitments, adding that the Kingdom considers credible and professional human rights organisations as partners in the efforts to consolidate and protect human rights.
He also highlighted the recommendations implemented since the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) submitted its final report.
Ashraf Al Dadah expressed delight at the meeting, expressing interest in following up the positive progress made by the Kingdom in the field of human rights.
He also affirmed the importance of continuing efforts to highlight the Government of Bahrain’s reform and development efforts at international gatherings.
He lauded His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s bold decision to establish BICI, involving eminent international judges, launch the National Consensus Dialogue and following up the implementation of its visions in cooperation with the Executive and Legislative Branches, accept BICI’s recommendations and set up of special committees to ensure that they are implemented.
He also expressed the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) to cooperate with the Human Rights Affairs Ministry in all human rights fields.
