Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa paid tribute to the GCC countries for their support to Bahrain and underlined the importance of bolstering the regional security in the wake of challenges ahead.
Chairing the 125th GCC Foreign Ministers meeting, which convened in Manama today evening, he pointed out the importance of the session and the GCC forthcoming summit in spotlighting political issues and security threats.
He underlined the need to boost regional security and stability on the principle of joint reconciliation with all countries.
He welcomed participation of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in the meeting, alongside his GCC brethren, after his recovery, wishing him continuous good health.
“The challenges we are facing require a unified foreign policy in order to achieve full GCC citizenship that reflects our cohesion and constant policies,” he said.
He added that the GCC people pin hope on the outcome of the 33rd GCC Summit in achieving their aspirations, wishing the GCC leaders every success.
The Saudi Foreign Minister voiced gratitude and respect to his GCC counterparts for constantly asking about his health during his illness, stressing his ability to continue supporting the GCC march.
GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani extended thanks and respect to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for Bahrain’s hosting of the 33rd GCC Summit, lauding his speech in the opening of the National Assembly’s third session of the third legislative term.
He wished the GCC Foreign Ministers every success in achieving forecast goals.
The ministers reviewed issues on the meeting’s agenda, pertaining mainly to the political, economic, social, environmental, educational and health fields.
They also discussed strategic negotiations between the GCC member states and other countries as well as international groups, strategic partnership between the GCC member states and Jordan and Morocco, the Iranian occupation of the three UAE islands, the Iranian nuclear file, the Syrian crisis and the situation in Yemen, Palestine and Iraq.
