His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander met UN Special Envoy, Terje Rød-Larsen, where the current situation in Bahrain was discussed.
Welcoming the visit of the UN Special Envoy, HRH Crown Prince stated Bahrain’s desire to co-operate and co-ordinate with the United Nations and its various bodies to serve joint interests aimed at development and global peace in line with UN principles.
HRH Crown Prince stressed that the safeguarding of cohesion and the unity of society was the upmost priority for the Kingdom of Bahrain and that this required a commitment by all parties to seek sustainable solutions that are based on an objective and realistic analysis of what is happening in Bahrain.
HRH Crown Prince reiterated that a practical, realistic approach that incorporates an understanding of society, the regional context and current challenges was the only way to build bridges between different groups. He went on to emphasise that such an approach was a national responsibility for all and was the only means that the country would be able to most effectively continue its efforts to reform and develop, under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
UN Special Envoy for the implementation of resolution 1559, Terje Rød-Larsen, who is in Bahrain as part of a regional tour, emphasized that many of the domestic conflicts in the region have crossed-border dimensions and that in order to understand the conflict patterns in one country, a regional analysis was required. He noted that the situation in Bahrain can often be portrayed in a distorted or unbalanced manner and that a deep understanding was required in order to provide an effective diagnosis and a sustainable solution. He recognised the importance of maintaining stability and creating an atmosphere of mutual understanding in Bahrain.
The meeting was also attended by Advisor for Political and Economic Affairs at the Court of the Crown Prince, Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al-Khalifa and President of the Court of the Crown Prince, Shaikh Khalifa bin Daij Al-Khalifa.
