Supreme Council for Women, (SCW) Secretary General Hala Al-Ansari described violence against women as the council’s top priority since its inception.
Speaking at a press conference to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on November 25, she said that the national women empowerment strategy consists of schemes to ensure family security and stability.
She added that the legislative, executive and judicial powers have been working collaboratively to further boost women’s status as an added value in the community and achieve competitiveness and sustainable social stability.
She underlined Bahrain’s keenness on empowering women through continuous coordination among relevant parties to tackle the issue of violence against women and achieve family security and stability.
She explained that the method adopted by SCW in this regard is based a scientific study, conducted in cooperation with Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research, on violence against women.
As a matter of fact, the council has drawn up a comprehensive system to curb this phenomenon by mainly providing free legal and judicial assistance to women, family guidance and amending some legislations.
The SCW Secretary General called for the need to boost the role of social networking systems to combat family violence and unify efforts in this regard.
She underscored SCW readiness to provide every support and assistance to attain set up goals, pointing out that the council is currently working on creating a unified national database regarding family violence, in cooperation with official and non-governmental organisations.
The aim, she said, is “to boost social partnership by sharing knowledge, with the existence of a national database, and availing from statistics in compiling reports, conducting local, regional and international researches and mapping out future plans.”
