Startup Weekend Bahrain, organised by Batelco was hailed a huge success by all competitors, coaches, speakers and judges as the 54 hour weekend event came to a close at Batelco’s Staff Centre, Saturday 10th November.
Nine teams worked around the clock from Thursday night through to Saturday evening to develop a business model in the hope of winning the top cash prize of BD4000. The 9 competing business ideas were Lantern, BLBL (Baby Language), Anacodist, Instapay, Raikom, Letz Hub, U Track, Promolio and Treq.ME.
On Saturday evening, each team was given five minutes to present their business plans in front of a panel of judges made up of experienced senior management and business leaders. Following in-depth discussion U Track was declared the winner, with Raikom being awarded second place and Treq. ME in third place. The top three teams have walked away with BD4000, BD2000 and BD1000 respectively. Five members of the winning team are students with Arab Open University, one of the event sponsors.
The first placed three teams will be given free incubation services by Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and free Cloud Services from The Cloud W.L.L. The nine final presentations, which were filmed, will now also be reviewed by Tenmou, the Bahrain Business Angel Company, with a view to providing any ideas deemed to have economic potential with up to BD20, 000 funding to develop and launch their business.
Batelco extends much appreciation to the speakers and coaches from leading companies including Mumtalakat, Microsoft, Tamkeen, Ericsson, BDB, and Tenmou, who all volunteered their time to support the teams during the event.
Batelco also wishes to extend its gratitude to a number of local companies who ensured the event’s success via their invaluable sponsorship.
