Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)’s continuing commitment to gender equality at the corporate and national level forms one of the key incentives behind the company’s sponsorship support for Bahraini Women’s Day celebrations that took place on Saturday, December 1, 2012.
Organised under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President of the Supreme Council for Women, Bahraini Women’s Day provides an occasion to commemorate the achievements and contributions made by women towards the development and progress of Bahrain.
Bahraini Women’s Day celebrations for 2012 were held under the theme: “Women and Sports: Will… Achieve… Aspirations.” It recognised the achievements of Bahraini women in national, regional and international sports, and praise the important role Bahraini women have made in raising the country’s profile at the global sporting arena.
“Bahraini Women’s Day has been specially set aside to mark the achievements of women of this country who are contributing to the Kingdom’s social and economic life. It is also about looking at the future and working towards enlarging opportunities for women to excel and enjoy their rights as fellow citizens,” Alba’s Chief Support Functions Officer, Basem Al Sharqi said.
“At Alba, we join the Kingdom of Bahrain in celebrating this day and in playing our part in strengthening gender equality at the work place. We are especially proud of the many Bahraini women who have excelled in sports and made the Kingdom proud of their accomplishments. It is, therefore, quite apt that in this Olympic year, Bahrain would choose to honour sportswomen who set standards of excellence for others to emulate.”
Alba currently has the maximum number of women employees in any industrial company in Bahrain. The company holds the honour of having the first woman engineer in Bahrain as well as the first woman doctor to be in charge of a medical facility in an industrial plant.
