Marking Bahraini Women’s Day, which falls on the 1st of December, Ministry of Labour under the patronage of its Minister, Jameel Bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, in the presence and participation of MP Sawsan Taqwi and senior officials at the ministry.
Humaidan praised the efforts and initiatives of the Supreme Council for Women under the chairmanship of the Wife of HM the King, HRH Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for the distinctive and constructive work, and the council’s sustainable cooperation and coordination with the governmental and private institutions and organizations in general, and the Ministry of Labour in particular.
Humaidan also commended the Supreme Council for Women for directing the support and empowering programmes for women; the application of the principles of equal opportunities between males and females, integrating women’s needs in development, so women can attain their natural position in community, and contributing in promoting development and progress from the various locations.
Humaidan stressed the importance of the role played by Bahraini women in Bahraini society economically and socially, pointing out that Bahraini women attained their prestigious position in the various fields, and participated in the development process since the modern renaissance in the contemporary history of Bahrain.
The Minister added that the Ministry of Labour is keen on training and qualifying Bahraini women, where it monitored labour market indicators, provided encouraging positive climates to involve them through working in the private sector, through a series of initiatives, projects and programmes aimed at achieving appropriate and suitable balance to support the role of women in society and enhance the wheel of production.
The Ministry proceeded in enacting laws and legislation to ensure women’s rights, and create a suitable work environment. Humaidan presented an example of issuing the law No. (36) for the year 2012, through issuing the labour law. He highlighted that the efforts of the Ministry raised the number of women in private sector from 24% in 2000 to over 30% at the current moment.
The Minister congratulated all the Ministry’s women affiliates and the Bahraini Women in particular, stressing the support of the ministry for all the initiatives launched by the Supreme Council for Women, or any initiative aiming at elevating the efficiency of women.
MP Sawsan Taqwi delivered a lecture entitled “My Motto is not for Negative Thinking,” where she focused on the ability to adopt the lifestyle that satisfies desires and needs of individuals, and to promote a sense of personal self-efficiency that addresses challenges and difficulties.
Taqwi also talked about the benefits of exercising sports to let body organs enjoy good health which would positively reflect on the physical and mental health of the individual, pointing out the sporting achievements attained by Bahraini women, praising Ministry of Labour for holding such activities and encourage them, as well as its role in empowering women, preparing and rehabilitating them to integrate in the labour market.
The Director of Unemployment Insurance Division, Head of Equal Opportunities Unit at the Ministry of Labor, Fawzia Shehab highlighted that the Bahraini women enjoys a distinctive position and a great concern from the wise leadership in rehabilitating and empowering hem to perform their civilized role through their leading positions in various development areas.
Fawzia Shehab also said the Equal Opportunities Unit at Ministry of Labour works according to a systematic programmed plan, and with cooperation and coordination with the Supreme Council for Women aiming at integrating women’s needs in the development at one hand, and achieve the principle of equal opportunities between males and females in all areas on the other hand. This is accomplished through raising the level of awareness of the female employees about their rights as well as their numerous roles, and integrating and empowering them in all the positions and locations they occupy.
The ceremony included honoring all the affiliates of the Ministry of Labour as an appreciation for their sincere efforts in supporting the initiatives and projects of the ministry, as well as honoring Haniya Makki Salman the employee at the Qualitative Council for Training in the Hospitality sector for her distinctive role and efforts to develop the council.
