Foreign Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, while addressing the 8th IISS Regional Security Summit, the Manama Dialogue 2012, reiterated the government’s strong belief in dialogue as the optimum way to solve problems and settle differences.
He said that there was a real commitment and a “true advice” from the government to all parties that dialogue is the means to solve problems and settle differences.
Shaikh Khalid, while replying to questions with regard to the implementation of the BICI report, said the government has had shown through actions by implementing the majority of recommendations of the BICI.
But, he added, there are some recommendations which need certain capacity building and the government is trying to acquire the capability, expertise and knowledge sharing by working with friends, allies and brotherly nations.
For example, in judiciary, the Justice Ministry has been working with American Bar Association and other governments to seek the knowledge and expertise to implement BICI recommendations.
He also explained in a press statement given today on the sidelines of his participation in the 8th “IISS Regional Security Summit: The Manama Dialogue” that no opportunity will be missed without talking about dialogue.
“What prevents a dialogue to take place?” he asked, adding “the door is open and nothing is concealed.”
Regarding the extent of the opposition’s response to calls to renounce violence, the minister underscored the need to work hand in hand to enforce the so called “Non-violence Document” which has been declared by many political societies.
He added there is a big responsibility for those societies to prove that that document is applicable.
Concerning the capability of Bahrain and the GCC countries to confront the danger that could be caused by an explosion at Bushehr nuclear plant in Iran and the exposure to nuclear radiation, he confirmed Bahrain’s full readiness to confront nuclear or chemical threats.
“The directives of His Majesty the King to the government are clear in this regard. We are fully prepared and work is in full swing,” he said.
He also added that the GCC coordination is going on to confront any nuclear or chemical dangers or catastrophes through a unified programme.
Regarding the US and British stances vis-à-vis Bahrain’s issues, he said both countries are friends to Bahrain and historical allies. “We appreciate their efforts,” he affirmed.
