The minister, also head of the Supreme Human Rights Coordination Commission, highlighted Bahrain’s strides, stressing the possibility of building on achievements to promote human rights practices.
The minister updated the OHCHR delegation on the role of the coordination commission which includes all official parties concerned with human rights.
He pointed out that Bahrain had approved 157 recommendations out of a total of 176 set by the Geneva-based Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
The Kingdom of Bahrain has endorsed 143 recommendations fully and approved 13 others partially.
The Kingdom of Bahrain has also voiced reserves over the remaining recommendations for contravening the Islamic Sharia precepts and the constitutional provisions or encroaching on Bahrain’s sovereignty, being politically-motivated.
Fennich pointed out that the OHCHR delegation’s mission aims at gauging the needs of Bahraini state departments and civil society institutions as well as supporting competence-building efforts.
He hailed the Government of Bahrain for providing the required facilities to ensure the success of the OHCHR mission.
