The European Union announced its strong detestation vis-à-vis Israeli construction projects in south and north of occupied Jerusalem, according to a report published by the BNA.
The EU Foreign Minister, Catherine Ashton, in a statement she said that the European countries object to Israeli construction projects which could hamper any negotiations for a possible solution of the conflict in the region. Ashton asserted that the Israeli plan to construct more than 3600 homes in Jerusalem might lead to severing of Bethlehem from Jerusalem.
The EU official urged both the Israeli and the Palestinian sides to resume the peace process. All UN Security Council members, except the United States of America, last night denounced the Israeli decision to build thousands of housing units in East Jerusalem (Al-Quds) and other settlements. Representatives of Britain, France, Portugal and Germany issued a joint statement in which they asserted that the construction project in the area known as (E-1) between Jerusalem and the West Bank could lead to severing Jerusalem from the West Bank and to deportation of Palestinians and could subject the two states’ solution to risk.
