Five Bahrain-based Asian businesspersons were selected the winners of the first Standard Chartered Summit of Excellence Asian Business Awards in Bahrain and received their trophies from the Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at a ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The trophy for the Asian Businessman of the Year 2012 was sponsored by Bahrain Financial Exchange (BFX) and was won by Dr. K. Kishore Mathur, the CEO and Managing Partner of Ahmed Moh’d Amin Al Khaja and Sons.
The trophy for the Asian Businesswoman of the Year 2012 was sponsored by Ford Motors and was won by Payal Patel, the founder of Lotus PI events and mentor and marketing force for the nascent Bahrain fashion industry.
The third trophy was for the Young Asian Entrepreneur of the Year and was sponsored by Ali Hasan, Chairman of the Al Noor International School, himself a prominent businessman and entrepreneur. It was won by Syed Naushad Hashmi, Managing Director of Arepro.
The Asian CEO of the Year trophy was won by Mannil Thomas Mathews, CEO of Al Moayyed Contracting, a respected veteran in the community who has been in Bahrain for over four decades.
The distinguished selected Saleem Asgharali, patriarch of the Asgharali business community as the recipient of the State Bank of India Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by India’s largest bank which boasts of a Fortune 500 listing and a 200-year history and has been in operation in Bahrain since 1977.
The Summit of Excellence organisers honoured UAE business tycoon and retail industry leader Yusuffali M.A. with a special award for his visionary role and endeavours in bringing the GCC and Asia closer and investing in Bahrain through the Lulu Hypermarket chain in the Kingdom.
Bahrain-based businessman Sajid Shaikh was honoured with Summit of Excellence Award for his role in promoting Bahrain-Asia ties and using his leadership position as the first Board Member of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry to further the cause of Asian businessmen and women.
A special award was conferred upon Soman Baby, Managing Editor of Daily Tribune for his role in interpreting the partnership between the Asian community and Bahrainis during the course of a career in media that spans over three decades.
