In line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, the Customs Affairs has taken steps to ease the truck congestion on King Fahd Causeway.
Customs Affairs Chief Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa received Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) representatives and discussed the issue.
Officials representing the General Directorate of Traffic and owners of transportation companies and trucks also attended.
They agreed to enforce new procedures for customs clearance on King Fahd Causeway.
The Customs – BCCI Joint Commission will coordinate the new procedures with the owners of transportation companies and trucks.
Under the new procedures, clearance officers will have to be present on time to finalise procedures.
Importers will also have to clear their containers and trucks from King Fahd Causeway without any delay.
New procedures will also be enforced regarding trucks heading to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The measure would be based on the priority in registration and the quality of exported goods, particularly food products.
The Customs Affairs is also coordinating several parties to earmark enough parking area near the exit gate at King Fahd Causeway for trucks and drivers to receive all services.
