The return of greater and lesser Tunb and the Abu Musa island — now under Iranian occupation — to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be one of the issues that the UAE will raise at the 33rd Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, said the newly appointed Ambassador of the UAE to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mohammed Sultan Saif Al Suwaidi.
In an interview to the Bahrain News Agency, the ambassador said that the UAE has raised its concern over the occupation of the three islands and looks forward to their return. He said the support of the GCC member states on this issue has been very supportive and encouraging. “We hope to arrive at a tangible solution,” said the envoy. There have always been efforts to get Iran to the negotiating table to solve the issue, the ambassador said.
Al Suwaidi added that there are bilateral agreements that already have been signed between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates mainly in the economic domain.
Asked for his contribution to the growth of bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain, the ambassador said that the relations between the two nations at all levels, runs deep. “My arrival here is seen as a visit to my own people,” said the envoy. The families have ties all over the area and so it is like one large family, said Al Suwaidi.
