His Majesty King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, will announce, during his visit to the University of Bahrain (UoB) on Sunday, the launch of the “King Hamad Oasis for Science and Technology” and the “University Studies Support” projects, Education Minister Dr. Majed bin Ali Al Nuaimi revealed.
Speaking during a press conference held at UoB on Saturday, the Minister said the “King Hamad Oasis for Science and Technology” will be established in the headquarters of the UoB in Sakhir and will consist of three main components, namely a College of Science and Technology, Research Centres to host research programmes and Investment areas that provide funds for scientific research.
Regarding the “University Studies Support” project, Dr. Al-Nuaimi said that it is a scientific and educational scheme aiming to provide necessary support for needy students, including those with special needs, in order to enable them to pursue their university education, affirming that the move reflects HM the King’s constant desire to ensure the right to education for all members of the Bahraini society.
The Education Minister pointed out that UoB will be, once again, honoured by HM the King’s visits, which, he asserted, testifies to the Royal support for Bahraini youths, adding that thanks to HM’s directives, students pay less 10% of university fees, free transport is provided for more than 7000 students and over 2700 needy students are fully exempted from fees, which are provided by the Students Fund.
UoB President Dr. Ibrahim Janahi highlighted UoB’s services and academic achievements, explaining that it ranks 2800th in the world, among 24000 universities, and the 40th in the Arab world.
