The Council of Arab Information Ministers has voiced its solidarity and denounced all distortion campaigns staged by some satellite channels in violation of the Arab Media Charter of Honour and other media ethics codes.
The council also decided to refer the kingdom’s request to stop the broadcasting of the Lebanese Communication Group (Al-Manar TV and Al-Nour Radio station) to Arabsat and Nilesat in order to examine the extent of their adherence to the contracts they signed with it.
Another request by the kingdom to suspend the membership of Al Manar TV and Al-Nour Radio station in the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) was also forwarded to ASBU Board.
This came as Minister of State for Information Affairs Samira bint Ibrahim Rajab led today the kingdom’s delegation to 44th Council of Arab Information Ministers held in Cairo.
The Minister called for the need to stop the broadcasting of channels which sow sectarian divisions and incite hatred and violence, in clear breach of media ethics codes, stressing that they have disseminated misinformation against the kingdom and have tried –and are still trying- to distort the kingdom’s efforts to overcome the repercussions of the 2011 events.
She also called up the council to take firm legal actions against channels promoting sectarianism, ethnic and religious hatred.
