Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hussein bin Ali Mirza, received in his office the legal advisor of and partner in the London-based Baker-McKenzie Legal Consultancy, Marc Vive-Ray accompanied with the company’s Bahrain branch director, Iain Cyril, who discussed with the Miniser the scope of required regulations pertaining to renewable energy sources in the Kingdom of Bahrain in order to benefit from the company’s know-how in this domain specifically regarding establishing basic requirements to create a competitive environment for overseas companies and corporations interested in investing in this major sector to produce electric power from sources of renewable energy.
During the meeting, optimum means available to begin in finding the required mechanisms and regulations, including conducting a form and workshop for senior government officials concerned with developing opportunities to produce electricity from renewable energy and in order to explore and discuss with senior experts from legal firms specialized in this field as well as investment firms which will participate with their expertise in investing in this area from other countries. Through discussion, it was agreed to hold this seminar on the second quarter of this year under the patronage of the Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs.
The Authority (EWA) and the company will prepare detailed frames for the said forum and level of participation from the competent sides. The Kingdom of Bahrain now sponsors the implementation of two separate projects for construction of pilot plants for the production of electric power from renewable energy sources with a total capacity of 10 megawatts.
