His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has issued directives to the concerned authorities to ensure all help to the injured and the families of the fire victims.
Thirteen workers were burnt to death on Friday in the second deadliest fire involving labour camps in Bahrain. A fireman was also injured battling the blaze which gutted a three-storey building in the Mukharqa neighbourhood in Manama used as a bachelor’s pad at about 4pm.
The death toll could rise as firemen were late last night still searching the site for more victims after the roof of the building collapsed during the blaze.
The dead workers were being identified.
Quick action by the firemen prevented the blaze from spreading in the crowded area near the “Bengali Galli”.
Most of the victims were believed to be “free-visa” workers from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, sources said.
An inquiry has been ordered to find out the cause of the fire.
