The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, emphasized the significance of the initiative of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for establishing an Arab Human Rights Tribunal which comes in line with His Majesty’s keenness on boosting human rights emanating from the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national and legal tenets and in harmony with regional and international efforts in this respect.
Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa on the sidelines of the Manama Conference for the establishment of the purposed an Arab Human Rights Tribunal which kick started on Monday described the initiative of HM the King in which His Majesty called for creating an Arab Human Rights Tribunal as an opportunity to develop legal jurisprudence pertinent to human rights all over the Arab world and throughout the entire region. His Excellency the Minister of Justice pointed out that the existence of an Arab Charter and the creation of an Arab Human Rights Tribunal as a mechanism to ensure the respecting and safeguarding of human rights all over the Arab world is an extremely important matter despite compliance with international principles of human rights as there is a special uniqueness in each region regarding some human rights applications.
The Minister of Justice commented on creating the first ever tribunal of its type in the Arab and the Asian regions hoping that the Arab Human Rights Tribunal will act as a contributory factor in achieving the aspirations of Arab peoples who would like to know the limits of rights and liberties. According to the Minister, an Arab Human Rights Tribunal will be a regional and independent and shall have no direct relation with the United Nations and will consider human rights’ applications in Arab countries only and may provide advisory or compulsory opinions regarding specific human rights issues which could be lodged by member states, organizations or individuals. The Minister said that the matter of any relationship between the Arab Tribunal and the United Nations is now the subject of consideration and studying.
