Chief of Public Prosecution and the Head of the Investigation Unit, Nawaf Abdullah Hamza said that based on the continuation of the investigations into a death of 16-year old Bahraini, the Unit interviewed two members of the security forces who were in the location of the incident, on suspicion of involvement in the incident, where they were both equipped with rifles, as reported by their workplace.
During investigation, he added, the two security policemen denied any attack from them leading to death, as well as denying any involvement in the death of the citizen.
They said that during their presence within the forces preserving order in the area of Al-Daih, nearly 350 rioters intensively attacked the forces using stones, iron rods and pieces of wood, of which forced the troops to launch tear gases in an attempt to stop the attack.
Due to the rioters highly intensive attack, a member of the forces was injured, of which urged the forces to launch warning shots in the air to prevent the crowd from advancing and be able to rescue the injured policeman. They stressed that they never directed those shots to anyone in the crowd, in the time a member of the forces said that because of the attack on the forces, he was injured in his head and hand.
The special investigation unit ordered to keep the two policemen on remand till the end of the investigations to examine the security measures that have been initiated during the confrontations, in terms of the nature of arming the members of the security forces at the time. The unit also wanted to determine the people who were permitted to have these weapons, and the relevance of the weapons of the two policemen and their relation to the incident.
He said investigations were continuing since the unit received notification on the death of Hussain Ali Ahmed in Al-Daih area, aiming at finding its causes and determine criminal responsibility for it.
He also said that one of the unit’s investigators moved to the location and counted the injuries in the body of the deceased, where he gave orders to call in a coroner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, as well as the experts of the General Administration for Forensics Evidence to examine the clothes of the deceased including gloves found to search for any evidences. Crime scene experts were also called to inspect the site of the crime and search for any evidences that may be helpful to the investigation.
The unit permitted for the burial of the body of the deceased after the coroner finished with their duties, and the judicial police were asked to carry out their investigations.
The unit called in specialized experts to examine the two weapons, and determine the last time they were used in firing, as well as any evidences of benefit to the investigation. The unit also asked to have the names of all the officers and members of the forces who were present at the location of the incident, their weapons, and the number of bullets delivered to them.
The units also asked for an official evidence to prove receiving of the weapons and bullets by the forces that were present in the location of the incident, and the number of bullets left without use after the incident, as well as a sample of the file’s used bullets with the special security forces.
On the other hand, the investigation unit called the two officers in charge of leading the forces to hear their testimonies in that regard.
