The weekly Cabinet meeting which was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa at Gudaibiya Palace approved the auction of the 4th generation of telecom services to the current telecom operators in Bahrain.
The Cabinet reached to the decision after discussing a memorandum by the Minister of State for Communications Affairs Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa on boosting the broadband infrastructure.
The ministerial council hailed the royal initiative to set up an Arab Human Rights Court, welcoming a conference to be held in Bahrain to discuss this project.
The cabinet lauded national gatherings aimed at boosting social unity and cohesion as well as preserving Bahrain’s hard-won achievements. The council praised in this regard the key role played by the National Unity Assembly in serving the nation.
The council reiterated condemnation of attempts to step up violence and jeopardize public interests by targeting financial and economic institutions and vandalizing public facilities.
These subversive acts, the cabinet heard, have nothing to do with reform and any attempt to exploit them for self-empowerment does not conform to democracy and doesn’t serve the climate of dialogue.
The cabinet called on all national parties seeking reform and development to explicitly renounce these acts.
The ministerial council commended the competence and professionalism of the security bodies as well as procedures taken by the Interior Ministry to promote security and stability and prevent threatening civic peace.
The Interior Minister briefed the cabinet on subversive and terror crimes witnessed by Bahrain recently and the massive efforts made by the security bodies to identify the perpetrators.
In line with the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry and international guiding criteria, the cabinet discussed the basic principles of using force and fire arms to ensure compatibility between the requirements of maintaining security and order and the legally-guaranteed requirements of public safety, rights and freedoms.
The ministerial council approved setting up a joint governmental self-auditing system covering all ministries and government bodies to further boost the principle of accountability and achieve the strategic goals of the government in this respect.
The cabinet decided to take the necessary legal measures to activate the system and tasked the Ministry of Finance to coordinate directly with the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes and other relevant government bodies to take the necessary procedures against discovered irregularities.
The council also gave the go-ahead for the setting up of a supreme committee in charge of the afore-mentioned system which will be headed by one of the Deputy Premiers and comprise experienced members from the private sector.
The cabinet approved reorganizing the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments by introducing new directorates following a memorandum submitted in this regard by the Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Civil Service Council.
The council gave the green light for the re-formation of the National Committee for the Prevention of AIDS that will be headed by the Health Minister and take into its membership representatives from the Interior, Education, Social Development and Labour Ministries, the Information Affairs Authority (IAA), the General Organisation for Youth and Sports, Salmaniya Medical Complex, BDF Hospital and King Hamad University Hospital.
The cabinet got updated on designs and proposals for the Pearl Road Project through a presentation by the Culture Minister. It was also informed about the list of archaeological and old buildings in Muharraq.
The cabinet tasked the Ministerial Committee for Services and Infrastructure to coordinate with competent ministries and parties to remove technical obstacles to the implementation of the Pearl Road Project.
The ministerial council approved a proposal to boost the role of the community police in maintaining civic peace, a proposal to create a hall where to meet students’ fathers in girls and boys schools with female administrative and educational staff.
