Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hussain Bin Ali Mirza received World Bank’s delegation marking its visit to Bahrain, within their field visit to follow-up the projects of raising the lighting efficiency in the residential sector in Kingdom of Bahrain.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister welcomed the delegation and praised the bank’s contributions in the authority’s projects, particularly the community projects, highlighting that the project of lighting the residential sector, the bank and Ministry of Finance are funding is considered one of the community projects they are proud to implement in Bahrain.
Dr. Mirza stressed the importance of the project which enjoys the support of the wise leadership led by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of the Prime Minister, HRH Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa and the Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander, HRH Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. He highlighted that they all allocate a special care for the electricity and water sector and its projects, out of considering its strategic importance in serving the citizens, and supporting the infrastructure projects in the area of investment and development.
During the meeting, the minister pointed out that the project of raising the lighting efficiency in the residential sector will include replacing about two million incandescent lamps (tungsten lamps) with more efficient lamps, where the minister lauded the joint collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and its role in supporting this project.
“This project is one of the sustainable development projects for the strategy of Kingdom of Bahrain, where it will contribute to improve the efficiency of lighting by up to 80%, which after being launched, will result in providing more than 245 gigawatts of electricity annually. It will contribute to the reduction of the high demand for electricity during the peak periods and reduces polluting emissions by up to 1,800 tons a year. It will also contribute to the provision of up to 2,300 million cubic feet of natural gas per year,” Dr Mirza dded.
The meeting was attended by Deputy CEO of Distribution and Customer Services, Engineer Adnan Mohammed Fakhroo, and Director of electricity and water Rationalization, Rana Salloum.
