Huawei, one of the 500 largest companies in the world, chosen Bahrain as its regional headquarters, it currently has 500 employees and has invested $28 million in its Bahrain office.
The company also has further plans to expand operations in the country in the next few years by investing in training, research and development and expansion in other fields.
State Minister for Communications Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa received a high level delegation from Huawei, one of the world’s leading ICT solutions providers, led by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Li Chen.
The Minister welcomed the delegation and reviewed the latest IT, mobile and broadband technologies.
Discussions also focused on sustainable development, green initiatives, CO2 emissions, and integrating technology solutions in healthcare and education. They emphasized the importance of technology and how it can play a very significant role in enhancing citizen’s lives, developing the economy and providing solutions to social, economic and business concerns.
The delegation voiced support for Bahrain’s initiative to develop and upgrade its current ICT infrastructure to international standards, foster a fair and transparent environment for the IT and telecom industry, and nurture healthy and balanced competition between the local telecom providers.
Moreover, the Minister was updated on Huawei’s products and initiatives, including community-driven education initiatives to introduce technology to the younger generation.
Sheikh Fawaz also received an invitation to attend Huawei’s booth at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013, to be held in Barcelona from February 25 to 28.
