State Minister for Communications Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and a high level delegation participated in the 2013 GSMA Ministerial Programme in Barcelona, Spain on Tuesday.
The GSMA Ministerial Program is being held on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 in Barcelona, the world’s largest mobile industry exhibition and conference of the heads of mobile telecom operators, vendors and suppliers.
The Minister met with other ministers, government officials, and senior management members of various international telecom operators. A meeting was held with Dr. Khaled bin Abdulaziz Al Ghunaim, CEO of Viva Saudi in the attendance of Ulaiyan Wetaid, CEO of Viva Bahrain.
Discussions focused on the global mobile industry, including the specific regulatory issues shaping the development of mobile in countries, regions and the world; mobile growth and investment; leveraging mobile for development; and use of innovative technologies to enable economic growth.
The Minister also paid a visit to the various exhibitions and pavilions at the MWC, including the Zain Telecom pavilion, to review the latest innovations in mobile, where he met with Dr. Asaad Albanwan, Zain Telecom Kuwait’s Non-Executive Chairman of the Board, Scott Gegenheimer, CEO of Zain Group, Omar Al Omar, CEO of Zain Kuwait, Dr. Saad Hamad Albarrak, CEO of Zain Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Zeinalabbedine, General Manager of Zain Bahrain, and Hamad AlRumaihi, Network Director at Zain Bahrain.
The MWC runs until February 28 and is expected to be attended by over 70,000 visitors, 1500 companies and manufacturers. The exhibition showcases mobile innovations, entertainment, applications, open mobile systems, and Internet technologies. MWC 2013 will also hold a series of meetings with heads of major telecom operators, and workshops, sessions and forums on various topics.
