The High Criminal Court convicted seventeen people of attempting to murder policemen on April9, 2012, at East Al-Eker and sentenced them to fifteen years in prison.
The accused planted a home-made bomb in a roadblock they set up using pile of tyres, palm tree trunks and garbage bins to ambush policemen.
The convicts then detonated the bomb when the police patrol came close to the roadblock in a premeditated attempt to kill policemen, Prosecution Chief Mamdouh Al-Maawda said. Four policemen sustained multiple injuries and burns due the terror explosion.
