Adel Khalil Al Moayyed, the Chairman and Acting Chief Executive of Bapco, on Thursday said that Bapco has had invested heavily in ensuring the highest standards of health and safety standards for its employees.
Al Moayyed was addressing during the 2012 Health & Safety award presentation ceremony in recognition of EHS distinguished performance 2012 and said that Bapco would remain committed on providing all possible assistance and help in this regard.
“This event is close to my heart because we at Bapco sincerely care about the health and safety of our employees, contractors and surrounding communities and we have invested heavily to ensure that we provide a safe and healthy work environment,” Al Moayyed said.
“At board meetings, EHS issue are taken very seriously and we are also focusing on environment, health, reliability, personal and process safety management issues,” he added.
Ebrahim Talib, the Deputy Chief Executive Refining and Marketing, Chairman Environment, Health & Safety Committee gave speech in which he expressed pride in safety achievements of last year.
“We realized a series of safety achievements in 2012, and we are proud of each of these milestones that we achieved last year, as these milestones are not just numbers,” he said.
The eight million milestones for example means that all Bapco and contractors’ employees went home without any injury every day for 345 days,” added.
After reviewing Bapco’s record of injuries and incidents, Talib announced the winners of Safety Award 2012. In the high risk category, the winner was Power and Utilities Department. The Gas Distribution and Sales Department won the medium risk category, and low risk category award was won by Quality Assurance Department. The winner of the large contractor group was Cape R.B. Hilton Ltd.
Al-Moayyed concluded his speech by congratulating the EHS Committee and Contractor Safety Committee on their leadership of the various H&S programmes, and thanked both committees for their hard work and dedication to safety during 2012 and extended sincere thanks to all Bapco and Contractor employees.
