Minister of Human Rights Affairs, Dr. Salah Bin Ali Abdul Rahman, received Hughes Mingarelli, the Managing Director of North Africa, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq Department at the European External Action in the Minister’s office at the ministry’s headquarters in Bahrain Financial Harbour.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the official of the European External Action and the accompanying delegation, stressing the openness and transparency of the Bahrain in meeting with all various figures and parties to review the realty of the civilized achievements and rights gains that were accomplished during the last period. This is in addition to the progress achieved along the rights action course for the welfare and stability of the Kingdom.
The minister briefed the official of the European External Action on a number of reforms in the human rights and democratic area, stressing the strong will of the state to achieve more progress and growth in the democratic and rights course. That was reflected positively through holding sessions of fruitful national dialogues, and referring the national consensuses in all various issues to be implemented through the constitutional and legal channels.
Dr. Salah also pointed out the important constitutional amendments adopted by the legislative institution with its two councils, the Shura and Representatives, and reinforced the powers of the elected council and reflected the public will in forming the government through a condition of the approval of the Council of Representatives on adopting the government’s work programme.
Dr. Salah stressed Bahrain’s concern to strengthen the cooperation and coordination relations with all various prestigious European figures, organizations and authorities in the area of human rights out of its experience in the rights field.
Dr. Salah also reviewed the rights achievements on the grounds, including the Arab Summit held in Doha and its adoption of HM the King’s proposal to establish an Arab Court for Human Rights.
Hughes Mingarelli thanked the minister for providing them the opportunity to meet with him and be briefed on the reality of conditions in Kingdom of Bahrain, highlighting the European Union readiness to provide the ministry with support in the rights areas.
