Bahrain based Indian writer Sindhu S. has published her debut novel, The Plunge, where she explores the modern day love story.
The woman-centric novel is set in India and sees the world of romance from the protagonist Anjali’s eyes, mostly.
Thirty-something journalist Anjali is an independent woman, angered by the male dominated world around her and distressed by her past encounters with men.
And, when she meets the charismatic colleague Siddharth, she has no intention of becoming romantically involved. But they connect at an emotional level. Still, she hopes and waits for the moment the charm will be broken, which does not happen. Seized by emotions that go against her beliefs, she is caught between love and sanity.
She plunges into an affair with a man she knows little about, and risks everything.
The Plunge, a frank examination of the present day trend of instant relationships, is told with profound emotional insight.
The book was published through US based publishing platform Createspace on February 13, and distributed through Amazon in paperback and e-book editions.
The Plunge is also sold by Jashanmal Bahrain bookstores. Copies of the book are expected to be available in Indian Bookstores only by June this year.
Born in 1966, Sindhu drew inspiration for The Plunge from her days as a journalist in her home country. The story is set in three locations: Kerala, Mumbai and Shimla.
She is now working on her new book, tentatively titled ‘Chains’. The non-fiction explores the many facets of marriage, what she calls ‘a social obligation’.
Excerpts from ‘The Plunge’:
‘Reporters showed up, toting messily scribbled notepads, press releases, visiting badges, sweat and irritability.’
‘Anjali secretly felt like a proud owner of her wounds. She took care of them while they healed as if they were her children.’
‘Deodars had a different attitude toward the elements around. They stood unaffected by the breeze that swayed other plants… indifferent to their surroundings… Just like Siddharth.’
