The exhibition of “From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace -Toward a World Free From Nuclear Weapons”, co-organized by Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT), Soka Gakkai International (SGI), International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), United Nations Information Center (UNIC) and Inter Press Service (IPS), will be held in Bahrain under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kingdom of Bahrain and in cooperation with the Government of Kingdom of Bahrain and the Embassy of Japan.
The exhibition highlights issues of nuclear weapons through the lens of human security, while placing the work of their abolition at the heart of building a culture of peace. Since the exhibition was launched by SGI in 2007, it has been shown in more than 230 venues in 29 countries and territories, including New York, Geneva, Vienna, London, Rome, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok and other major cities in the world.
“Manama will be the first city in the Middle East region to host this exhibition. It is believed that this kind of exhibition is held for the first time in this region. This event is expected to contribute to the discussion on the establishment of a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction,” the Embassy of Japan in a statement said.
The Opening Ceremony (by invitation only) will take place on Tuesday 12th, March, at Bahrain National Museum, and the exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 13th to Sat 23rd, March, at Seef Mall (West Exhibition area).
