The Chief of Public security, Major-General Tariq Hassan Al Hassan announced on Saturday that the Interior Ministry was gravely concerned regarding an allegation of sexual assault that appeared on social media and in the Bahrain Mirror.
The allegation was made by an unidentified female who stated that she had been abducted by two uniformed members of the Public Security Force, bound and handcuffed and taken to an undisclosed location where one of the police officers is alleged to have sexually assaulted her.
“Conduct such as is alleged in this case is deeply offensive and contrary to the morals of the Public Security Force and is categorically condemnable,” the Police Chief, said.
“However, to conduct a thorough, professional and transparent investigation the female in question will have to come forward and make a statement to the police. She is encouraged to make her way to a police station as soon as possible.”
An initial investigation has been conducted wherein people, including the President of the National Commission of Human Rights, who had discussed the case on social media, were contacted. “None of those interviewed could provide any details, including the identity of the woman,” the Chief added.
The Chief made a public plea for anyone who has any information about this case or the identity of the woman to please contact a police directorate or station or call 999.
