Bahrain ranked 48th in the Human Development Index according to the UN report for 2013 which was released in Manama during a ceremony organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) under the patronage of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Buainin.
Present were also Tamkeen Board Chairman and Advisor for Political and Economic Affairs at the Crown Prince Court Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa and UNDP Resident Representative Peter Grohmann.
In a speech given on behalf of him by Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Ambassador Karim Al-Shekr, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs underlined Bahrain’s interest in the annual reports on human development given their role in identifying contributing factors to sustainable development.
He pointed out that the UN Human Development Report is a reflection of Bahrain’s relentless efforts to invest in its human resources, being a top priority for the leadership.
Grohmann hailed Bahrain’s progress despite the global financial crisis, pointing out its status as one of the countries with high human development rates.
