The Minister of State for Information Affairs, cum Government’s Official Spokesperson, Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab, emphasized the significance of regulating and organizing the e-media (i.e. electronic media) commensurate with international conventions to ensure the respecting of human rights, public moral ethics and the banning of any provocative instigation of violence, sectarian strife, hatred or threat to security and public order.
This came when the Minister of State for Information Affairs received at her office in the Ministry premises the Central Informatics Organization (CIO)’s President cum Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)’s board of directors Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Amer, the general director of TRA’s IT Department Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa; and, the director of TRA’s Electronic Safety Department director Ahmed Jabir Al-Dossary in the presence of Bahrain Radio and TV Corporation (BRTC)’s general director Ali Al-Rumaihi and the director of the Department of Publications and the Press in the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) Yusuf Mohammed.
The Minister of State for Information Affairs also accentuated the importance of benefitting from international expertise in enactment and regulation of safe usage of electronic media and social media networks, without any misuse or propagation of false news, rumors, instigation of hostility or hatred, and disallowing any breach of the privacy and freedom of others, their religious and schismatic beliefs, and in compliance with professional ethics in expression of opinion in compliance with the provisions of all international media and rights conventions.
The two sides explored means to bolster cooperation in telecommunications, IT technology and systems, training programs, developing of networks, computerization, internet, email, government data, planning wireless licensures and frequencies, developing technical projects in the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) as well as modernization of BRTC studios and production equipment and proceed with the plan to transform from analogue to digital transmission (DTTV) and to keep abreast of latest technologies in the media and communications arenas.
